CHICAGO – Oct. 20, 2020 –Across the supply chain, many companies are still reeling from the effect COVID-19 has had on their operations and staffing. But that isn’t stopping them from hiring.
With analysis from their Stafftrack® tool, which tracks job openings across the country, leading staffing firms Staff Management | SMX and SIMOS Solutions identified the top supply chain jobs that have grown over the past few months and will continue to grow as companies ramp up for holiday hiring and beyond.
This includes both essential temporary and temp-to-perm work to help people get a foot in the door at a company for a long-term opportunity.
“We continue to see increases in demand for automotive, manufacturing, food production and transportation jobs,” said Carl Schweihs, president of TrueBlue’s PeopleManagement division, which oversees Staff Management | SMX and SIMOS Solutions.
“This is good news for many companies that had to slow down production in the early days of the pandemic. Because e-commerce will continue to rule purchasing behavior, especially during the coming holiday season, demand for these jobs will continue to rise to ensure products are made, stores are stocked and food and other items are delivered promptly.”
A recent Staff Management | SMX and SIMOS Solutions survey of 260 supply chain companies found that while nearly half believe that both business and hiring will not be the same after the pandemic, nearly 2 in 5 companies have added jobs to mitigate risk and rehired furloughed workers.
To focus on where workers are needed the most during the coming peak season, Staff Management | SMX and SIMOS Solutions supplemented the survey findings with data from Stafftrack to identify the top jobs from July through September and in the months ahead:
- Temperature Monitors
- Janitorial/Hygiene
- Machinists
- Packing/Sorting/Returns Workers
- Automotive Assembly Line Workers
- Cargo and Mail Associates
- Food Production and Packaging Associates
- Dispatchers/Drivers/Transportation Coordinators
- Forklift Operators
These jobs reflect the ongoing role companies have in pandemic safety as well as increased demand in supply chain functions across the automotive, manufacturing, food production and transportation industries. With need increasing daily during the holiday season and beyond, more companies are using temporary workers to restart their businesses.
